With its Forests for the Future program launched in 2012, Eminence Organic Skin Care plants a tree for every product purchased through a partnership with Trees for the Future (TREES). This year, we join Eminence in celebrating its 10 millionth tree planted! Trees for the Future help train farmers on how to build productive and sustainable Forest Gardens and plant diverse trees and vegetables to feed their families and sell at market. Attila Koronczay, Owner and General Manager of Eminence, explains, “with the effects of global warming, extreme weather and natural disaster, we are very proud that this commitment is a cornerstone of our brand and making global impact. For us, this initiative isn’t about ‘just planting trees’ – it’s about changing lives.”
Bakary Camara of Koungheul, Senegal is one of the farmers supported by Forests for the Future. Bakary is also the Trees for the Future Technician in the region, training other farmers and monitoring their progress. Before the Trees for the Future Forest Garden approach, Bakary bought all of his vegetables from local food markets. Now, he sells his own fruits and vegetables at local food markets and, from his sales, is able to buy more food for his family and pay school fees for his children.
Bakary says he cannot imagine his life without the Forest Garden program. At no cost, his family is finally getting the nutrition they could otherwise never attain. Currently, he grows onion, cabbage, lettuce, eggplant, chili, pigeon peas, and moringa on his land. He grows these alongside mango, guava, lemon, and papaya fruit trees.
The Eminence team has been excited to see these Forest Gardens, such as Bakary’s, in rural communities emerge – they truly empower local people to restore their environment, grow their own food, and build a sustainable income and future for themselves, their families and their communities.
They have seen their program succeeding across Senegal. One of the TREES farmers, Babacar, shared that since starting his Forest Garden, not only has his food expenses decreased, his technical farming knowledge has drastically improved. Prior to the program, he was mono-cropping – planting only one crop across his land – which only brought him one pay day, and put him at high risk to lose his production with the recent, unpredictable and drastic weather changes. Now, he plants a diverse garden of vegetables and trees, allowing him to feed his family nutritious meals year-round as well as earn income from various harvests throughout the year. Babacar feels empowered to take care of his family, by caring for his land.
Staff at Eminence are proud of the work they are doing in collaboration with TREES, and look forward to watching the impact grow in the coming years. Koronczay shares that his team is proud to be empowering farmers in Senegal to restore the land and grow food. Moreover, they look ahead to the fact that the farmers are developing and maintaining their own solution – this change will last for generations and generations to come.
For Eminence, the Forests for the Future program is just one of the pillars of its holistic, Earth-friendly approach to business. This is a “green company”, not only because it plants a tree for every product sold, but also because its team members are driven to find organic, Earth-friendly solutions to every aspect of their business. For instance, staff are incentivized to walk, bike, or take public transit to work and the office, lab, as well as the Eminence Certified Organic Farm are powered using renewable energy sources. Together with TREES, Eminence is changing the world, and changing lives.

Congratulations on planting 10 million trees! What are you most proud about in reaching this milestone?
We are so excited to reach the momentous mark of 10 million trees through our Forests For The Future program. It’s been an honor to see that we are one of only three companies to reach this milestone and the only skin care brand to do so. With the effects of global warming, extreme weather and natural disaster, we have to say that we are very proud that this commitment is a cornerstone of our brand and making global impact. For us, this initiative isn’t about ‘just planting trees’ – it’s about changing lives.
Tell us about your Forests For The Future program
We started Forests For The Future in 2012 and, through this program, we plant a tree for every retails product sold. In partnership with Trees For The Future, this organization helps train farmers in developing countries, including Senegal, on how to build productive and sustainable Forest Gardens. We are excited to see these Forest Gardens in rural communities – they truly empower local people to restore their environment, grow their own food and build a sustainable income and future for themselves, their families and their communities.
What do you find is the most impactful part of your tree planting program?
It is important to us that we are empowering farmers in Senegal to restore the land and grow food. We are looking ahead to the fact that these farmers are developing and maintaining their own solution, and this will last for generations and generations to come.
How does the idea of planting trees fit in with how you envision your business?
We consider ourselves a green company, not only because we plant a tree for every product sold, but also because we drive to find organic, Earth-friendly solutions in every aspect of our business. Some of our commitments include providing incentives for staff to walk, bike or take public transit to work; using renewable energy sources for the Eminence Certified Organic Farm, as well as our office and lab; and rewarding partner spas who actively engage in green practices with a Green Spa Program.
