Trees for the Future Receives $50,000 Earth Day Pledge from Munchkin

Munchkin to Match Donations Made April 22nd

Washington DC (April 22, 2024) — Trees for the Future (TREES) donors have the chance to double their impact this Earth Day. Longtime corporate partner Munchkin Inc. (Munchkin), the baby lifestyle brand behind innovative gear and products for children, mothers and caregivers, is doubling every donation made on April 22nd up to $50,000.

“Farmers have a plan for their land and our planet. Thanks to Munchkin’s generous matching gift commitment, we’re helping farmers bring their plan to life twice as fast,” says Vice President of Development Cate O’Kane.

TREES is a regenerative agroforestry nonprofit training farmers across sub-Saharan Africa in a technique called the Forest Garden Approach. Farmers plant thousands of trees on their own property and dramatically increase their access to nutritional foods and a steady source of income. They receive the tools, resources, and knowledge they need for their land and family to prosper for generations.

Donors directly support the work being done by TREES staff and Forest Garden farmers. Their donations on Earth Day will be doubled, helping reach more farmers, plant more trees, and change more lives.

Children’s brand Munchkin has partnered with TREES since 2016. Munchkin plants a tree for every diaper pail sold. To date, they’ve funded the planting of five million trees with Forest Garden farmers.

“By the time I was introduced to Trees for the Future, their initiative had already planted over 100 million trees worldwide,” shares Munchkin’s Chief Brand Officer & Creative Director, Diana Barnes (DB). “Our corporate social responsibility to help the planet immediately aligned. We decided to leverage one of Munchkin’s most popular items, the diaper pail. For every pail we sold, we planted a tree to offset gassy emissions—and so The Seedling Project was born. We have since adapted our collaboration to make certain we are planting at least one million trees a year, regardless of how many pails we sell.”

“Thank you, Munchkin, for your ongoing support and dedication to TREES, Forest Garden farmers, and our shared mission to restore livelihoods and landscapes. On Earth Day and every day, our work is made possible by individuals, foundations and more than 300 dedicated corporate partners just like Munchkin,” says O’Kane.

Supporters can donate here on April 22nd to have their gift matched.
