Frequently Asked Questions

  • Employee matching gift programs are corporate giving programs in which the company matches donations made by employees to eligible nonprofit organizations. It’s an easy way to double your contribution to us!

  • We partner with a company called Double the Donation. If you see anything that should be changed, please email Double the Donation’s team at data@doublethedonation.com

  • Requesting a matching gift is a five-minute process which must be initiated by the donor. You can do this by filling out and submitting a paper match form provided by your employer or through an electronic submission process.

    1. In order to submit a matching gift, you have to make a donation! Once you do…
    1. Log into your company’s matching gift submission website (if you use the Double the Donation search tool, you will receive a follow-up email linking to this page).
    1. Once logged in, search for us- Trees for the Future.
    1. Select us from the search results. If you can’t find us, you’ll have to manually enter our organization’s information. You can contact giving@trees.org for assistance with this!
    1. Register the donation.
    1. Submit the completed matching gift request to your employer.
  • Double the Donation will send you a link to your company’s matching gift submission site, so you can submit your form completely online. However, you can also submit it to your employer directly – either your employer’s HR or community giving department. They may ask for additional information about our nonprofit. If they do, you can contact giving@trees.org for support. If you choose to submit the form to your employer directly, please refer to the question below!

  • If you submit your matching gift or volunteer grant outside of the nonprofit’s online donation form or dedicated matching gifts page, contact the nonprofit directly to notify them of the request, so they may track the matching funds as needed. You can contact them at giving@trees.org

  • If you forget to submit your matching gift after selecting your company at the time of donation, you will receive a series of auto-generated emails prompting you to submit your match. The majority of companies offer an all-electronic matching gift submission process.

  • If you no longer want to be asked to match your donation because you do not qualify or are uninterested, navigate to the email you’ve received from Double the Donation and click the link to mark yourself “ineligible.” After that, you will no longer receive communications from Double the Donation. You can also choose to “unsubscribe” at the bottom of the email. If your eligibility changes, or you change your mind, you can contact giving@trees.org who can assist you in changing your status.

  • While your donation to a 501(c)3 organization is tax-deductible, your matching gift is not tax-deductible. Only your personal contributions are eligible for tax-deduction. Each party involved (yourself and your employer) can only take deductions for contributions they directly made to the nonprofit.

  • For questions regarding your company’s programs, please contact your employer’s HR or community giving department. Much of the necessary information is also available on your company intranet. For questions regarding submitting a matching gift or volunteer grant, you can send your question to giving@trees.org who will be happy to support you!
