Trees for the Future uses Pledge’s donation processing tool (above) to process cryptocurrency gifts. Your donation will be received by Pledge’s 501(c)3 Pledgeling Foundation, who will then convert your gift to U.S. dollars and send it to us here at Trees for the Future.

Yes, you will receive a donation receipt upon the completion of your donation. Please be sure to include your email when making your gift so you can receive your donation receipt.

Yes, you have the option to donate anonymously. If you opt to make an anonymous donation, we will not be able to see the name or email associated with your donation.
To make an anonymous donation, please check the box next to “Don’t share my name and email address with the nonprofit.”

3% of your donation is collected to manage the costs associated with the crypto-exchange. You have the option to cover this cost when making your donation.

Pledge conducted an impact study to quantify the carbon emissions of crypto donation transactions from the 8 most used cryptocurrencies. Using the average, they were able to determine the amount of carbon dioxide each crypto transaction uses and selected two projects through the UN Climate Neutral Now Initiative to offset the carbon footprint based on that amount. There is no additional cost to donors or nonprofits for this impact, it is covered 100% by Pledge. You can learn more about Pledge’s carbon offset initiative here.

Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it from your taxes. If you itemize your deductions, this is an additional benefit to the usual deductions you’d receive for charitable donations.
